Untuk membentuk kalimat Present Continuous, kita memerlukan subject (subyek) yang biasanya diikuti oleh auxiliary verb "am" (untuk subjek I), "is" (untuk subjek he, she, it), atau "are" (untuk subjek you, we, they), diikuti oleh verb (kata kerja) utama dalam bentuk "-ing," dan akhiran -ing ini ditambahkan pada akhir kata kerja.
Pola umumnya adalah:
