BUTTERFLY

Butterflies are an insect that live anywhere from 2 days to as long as 11 months. They go through a four-step process called metamorphosis – from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis to a butterfly.

Adult butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight. These wings allow them to fly but only when their body temperature is above 86 degrees. The fastest butterflies can fly up to 30 miles per hour.

Butterflies’ wings are colorful for many reasons. The colors help them attract a mate and absorb heat and the color also helps them blend in among the flowers when they are feeding.

As in all insects, the body is divided into three sections: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The thorax is composed of three segments, each with a pair of legs. Butterflies use their antennae to sense the air for wind and scents. The antennae come in various shapes and colours; the hesperiids have a pointed angle or hook to the antennae, while most other families show knobbed antennae.

A. Pengertian Descriptive text  

Teks deskriptif merupakan salah satu jenis teks (genre) yang bertujuan untuk menggambarkan ataupun mendeskripsikan suatu hal, baik itu orang, benda, tempat, ataupun peristiwa tertentu berdasarkan gambaran penulis (to describe a person, thing, place, or event in specific way).  

B. Struktur Teks Deskripsi  

Identifikasi (Identification. Bagian pertama dari sebuah teks deskriptif ini dipergunakan sebagai paragraf untuk meperkenalkan subjek yang akan dideskripsikan.   Deskripsi (Description). Bagian kedua dari teks deskriptif ini membahas berbagai hal terkait ciri-ciri yang dimiliki subjek yang akan dideskripsikan (attributes of particular thing). Ciri-ciri yang dimaksudkan di sini yakni bisa mencakup tampilan fisik (appearance), bentuk (shape), warna (color), kualitas (quality), perilaku (habit), dan juga sifat (characteristic) yang dimiliki oleh subjek tersebut.

C. Ciri-ciri Kebahasaan  

Teks deskriptif memiliki beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang membedakannya dengan jenis text (genre) lain, sebagai berikut:  

Menggunakan simple present tense untuk menjelaskan ciri-ciri terkait subjek yang dibahas. Contoh: she is my class mate, he has strong arms, dan lain-lain.  Menunjuk kata benda (noun) tertentu yang spesifik, seperti my class mate, her pet, his shoe, our school, dan lain-lain.  Adanya penggunaan kata benda yang terperinci (detailed noun phrase) guna memberikan informasi lebih detail mengenai subjek. Contoh: an active young girl, a comfortable long bench, a rare insect, dan lain sebagainya.  Penggunaan berbagai jenis kata sifat (adjective) yang bersifat mendeskripsikan subjek (describing), menjelaskan jumlah (numbering), dan juga mengklasifikasikan (classifying). Contoh: four strong legs, a strong horns, two big round eyes, dan lain sebagainya.  Menggunakan relating verbs untuk memberikan informasi mengenai subjek. Contoh: it has good voice, it is black, the market is near from here,  dan lain-lainnya.  Menggunakan thinking verbs atau feeling verbs guna mengungkapkan pandangan penulis secara pribadi terkait subjek yang dideskripsikan. Contoh: I think she is quite nice, I feel that he is a warm and honest person, dan lain-lainnya.  Menggunakan bahasa figuratif (analogy) atau perumpamaan untuk menjelaskan sifat yang terdapat pada subjek. Contoh: My little sister is as sweet as candy, She is not as black as she is painted, today is as hot as in the desert, dan lain-lain.  Menggunakan action verbs guna menjelaskan perilaku atau kebiasaan subjek yang dibahas. Contoh:  come, prepare, do, eat, meet, dan lain-lain.

       In the morning, my friend and I saw Mount Batok. The scenery was very beautiful. We rode on horseback. It was scary, but it was fun. Then, we went to get a closer look at the mountain. We took pictures of the beautiful scanery there. After that, we took a rest and had lunch under a big tree. Before we got home, we went to the zoo at Wonokromo. We went home in the afternoon.
       We were very tired. However, I think it was really fun to have a holiday like this. I hope my next holiday will be more intersting.
